Cambridge Abbey ward regeneration required – could a redeveloped stadium lead the way?

The abbey ward in Cambridge is one of the most deprived in the county. It needs community space, social meeting areas, a positive outlook and a feeling of pride.

The Abbey stadium is home to Cambridge United and hosts to the Cambridge United Community Trust. Both club and Trust are actively engaged in helping people across the city and indeed across the county despite the lack of facilities at the Abbey Stadium.

Image what a boost to the Abbey ward it would be if the football stadium truly transformed into a community stadium. Perhaps a pub, a library, an NHS drop in center, a cafe and all within a smart new stadium bursting with pride. Imagine a frontage to the stadium welcoming with a new shop and ticket office.

Imagine concerts and festivals being held at the stadium with all the opportunities that would bring.

Imagine Cambridge United safe and secure in a stadium fit for purpose.

And now we must takes the right steps to make all this a reality.
