The excitement of drawing Man United in the fourth round of the FA Cup can be felt across the city and the county. And quite rightly everyone should enjoy it. These opportunities don’t come around that often.
It is a windfall we need to grasp with both hands. A windfall in terms of revenue certainly. But more importantly a windfall in raising the profile of the club and all its community based activities.
It will give the Cambridge United Community Trust a platform to press on with helping the 1000’s of young people across the county. The Trust can continue to work with schools, disabled people and those challenged by society.
But, success in the FA Cup is but one small step on the long road to success and stability. Success in the league is critical.
But the real challenge is to ensure it is possible to generate non match day income to provide financial stability and that will only be achieved with a redeveloped stadium.
Calm heads all round will be needed.
