Special Constables – can retired police officers help to fill the gap caused by government funding cuts?

Could Special Constables  help to fill the police numbers gap created by the Conservative cut to police funding?

Police officers retire at 55. Many are fit and able to continue to serve the public. Many continue to be driven by public service.

More importantly, many retired police officers see the growing threat of terrorism as a challenge to our way of life.

We need to make it easy for retired officers to become Specials. We also need to change the rules so that people can become specials in the neighbourhood and villages where they live.
