Grass cutting is just not good enough in West Suffolk. Local people quite rightly expect the grass to be cut properly for their council tax. If the complaints to me are anything to go by people are not happy.
Now, what does cut properly mean? A simple question with a multitude of answers. Some places benefit from neatly trimmed grass, some need short grass for safety reasons (Highways auctions), some prefer wilding of areas and so it goes on.
To my mind we need to go out to each parish and town and consult to see what folk want. We should then resource it correctly and charge accordingly. What we must not continue to do is to not meet the expectations of people. This service is valued but needs to be resourced properly.
Here is a recent press cutting on the subject.
We have this conundrum in NW Yorkshire too, mainly caused by the insensitivity of incomers.
Sensitivity during the breeding seasons of small animals, birds and butterflies is more important than the aesthetic sensitivities of entitled suburbanites.
