Sometimes organisations forget how important industry and commerce is. Cambridge would never take the tech sector for granted. It champions its success.
Newmarket is also incredibly successful. Last week at Tattersalls, where horses are sold, it catalogued 532 yearlings of which 470 were actually offered with 391 being sold.
The total value of the sales was 95,395,000 guineas or roughly £100m. The average price paid per horse was 243,977 guineas.
Selling horses is but one part of the industry. There’s also the racing, breeding, training, veterinary services and much more.
This is a massive industry and one that supports a significant number of employees. We must give it our full support where ever and when ever we can.
