The Labour led coalition at West Suffolk Council decided to scrap the Western Way hub project that was to provide a new swimming pool, children’s services and an archive facility for the people of West Suffolk. It would have also provided some health facilities.
It was scrapped with little thought and without the consequences being considered. Labour considered it a vanity project.
The hub was a cost effective way for services and buildings to be shared between the District and County Council as well as health.
As a direct result of the short sighted vision of Labour, supported by the independents, the archive center is now going to be located in Ipswich.
This was an avoidable own goal which will leave Bury St Edmunds much the poorer!!!
