Parliamentary changes locally

I have been asked a couple of times recently what is going on with the parliamentary constituencies locally?

Boundary changes are taking place in order to balance each constituency with an electorate that is no smaller than 69,724 and no larger than 77,062.

Currently, we have Bury St Edmunds constituency with Jo Churchill as the Conservative MP. Four wards (Bardwell, Barningham, Ixworth and Stanton) in the north east corner of West Suffolk constituency will be moved to the newly named constituency of Bury St Edmunds and Stowmarket.

We also have West Suffolk constituency, currently held by Matt Hancock who is stepping down at the next election. He was a Conservative but now sits as an independent MP. Nick Timothy is the Conservative Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for West Suffolk for the next general election.

Where this gets even more complicated is that Clare and Cavendish, that are currently in the South Suffolk constituency are moving into the West Suffolk constituency. South Suffolk’s MP is Conservative James Cartlidge. Those who live in Clare and Cavendish could be rightly confused as Clare and Cavendish have been in the West Suffolk Council area for some time!!!

Those affected by these changes should continue to contact their existing MP until the next General Election.

Phew!😳😮
