Wednesday was finished off with meetings to discuss the future of the library service and a regular 1 to 1 with Mark Lloyd the chief exec.
I have been keen to understand what an excellent library service should look like and what that might cost, to shape our thinking moving forward. I have been encouraging real innovation in the thinking which means much more than just reviewing the current buildings and service.
One of the challenges I see is how does the service better reflect the needs of the communities. For example we know that very few adults of working age use the libraries. Obvious really, they are at work during the day and too tired when they get home to wander off to a library. How can we better service this segment of our community?
I think we are seeing the emergence of some good ideas.
