I was invited to visit the children’s Locality team based in March. This team combines traditional locality work with social workers. Such a great idea. The ability for the two teams to speak rather than having to send reports must make communications and outcomes better.
It was my pleasure to meet both teams and spend some time discussing a range of issues. As always I was able to pick up some issues for me to look into when back at Shire Hall. Meeting dedicated professionals is always so stimulating and this was no exception.
Given the warm welcome I had and the wonderful lunch in Stotts fish restaurant I shall be back.
I took the opportunity to pop in and see John Elworthy in his new offices. They look good. Having effective local newspapers and local radio is so important for democracy and accountability, particularly when political opposition is weak.
