For a long time it it has been planned to move Papworth hospital functions to the Addenbrooks site.

This makes a lot of sense. It co-locates the clinical activity with the research and creates critical mass. It also stops unnecessary trips up and down the A14 by patients and consultants.

Many reviews have concluded that this is the best option for patients and the best option to move research forward.

Suddenly, out of the blue, the treasury wants to evaluate moving Papworth to Peterborough. This seems to have much more to do with trying to make sense of the disastrous PFI agreement for the Peterborough hospital than anything to do with patients.

Whilst I understand the difficulties that face Peterborough hospital moving Papworth to Peterborough is wrong for local patients and is wrong for the country.
