Clare Liaison and Support Project (CLASP) What a brilliant bunch of lovely people.

Clare Liaison and Support Project (CLASP) is a charity, founded in 1985 to provide help for people in need, from whatever cause, in Clare and the surrounding area.

Every Wednesday senior citizens meet in the Clare Old School Community Center at 1100 for a coffee and a chat. Then they enjoy a wonderful three course meal, waitress service and all for £6. Some knit, some read books or play scrabble. But without doubt they all enjoy the feeling of belonging and welcome the interaction with others. Companionship is so important.

This Wednesday I really enjoyed visiting CLASP and meeting everyone. Mike and Susan made me very welcome. Listening to the banter between two ladies in their 90’s was a real pleasure.

I enjoyed my meal, soup, lasagne, garlic bread and a wonderful cornflake pie to finish, with custard of course.

But it gets better. CLASP also has a minibus, with a low step and wheelchair ramp, to pick up and collect those who would like to attend. No charge but a donation is always well received.

CLASP also have a visiting and voluntary service who undertake friendship visits to sick or housebound folk. They have nearly 30 volunteer drivers who help with taking folk to hospital or other appointments. A quick phone call and John sorts it all out.

Volunteer drivers required. No big commitment but a chance to really make a difference.

Do you know someone from Clare or surrounding villages who would enjoy a day out? Couples welcome. A safe place for everyone to enjoy and relax and realise you are not on your own. Dementia suffers welcome.
