The expansion of HMP Highpoint is set to begin with construction commencing shortly.

Construction will be split into two parts – enabling works and full construction. The enabling works will start from June 2023 and this will get the site ready for full construction. Full construction will follow afterwards, which is currently expected to be early 2024.
The enabling works will:

• Provide alterations to the prison fencing and form gates within the existing perimeter to maintain security throughout construction
• Form an access road around the prison site for construction traffic
• Make improvements to Lancaster Way and the main access route for construction traffic onto the airfield
• Install temporary accommodation for contractors and staff
• Install contractor car parking and temporary accommodation
• Provide drainage, services and permanent roads during the construction period as well as security of the prison is the main priority.
