Waterbeach – Waste Recycling

I could not resist the opportunity to visit the new mechanical, biological waste treatment plant in Waterbeach.

Hard hats, goggles, boots and gloves were fitted (or did not fit as the case may be), briefings were had and then we were off to look around the plant. I did think at one point we all looked like we belonged in the music group, The Village People, and should break out with a chorus of Y M C A

But back to matters of waste. What a fantastic plant. I know it looked at its best being brand new but you could see the quality of the machinery and the thought behind the systems and controls. Great engineering.

The rubbish is sorted by machines, magnets, blasts of air et al.

The resultant waste is composted down. No smells, nice and safe.
