I had the opportunity to visit the Education ICT offices in Godmanchester. Walking back into the world of IT after leaving it 3 years ago when I sold my company was an odd feeling. I found myself discussing IT strategy, the merits of CRM systems, help desk software and support service level agreements with the schools.
This organisation trades at arms length to the council which means that it is not allocated a budget to spend but has to generate income, albeit from schools. The challenge for council depts, of any sort to convert to fully commercial outfits is a big one and not all depts can make it. The team seemed able, willing and very customer focused – not a bad start.
I will watch with some interest how this develops. Will I resist the temptation to interfere ??????
