This morning it was my pleasure to host the rail minister for lunch. We had a great discussion, with officers, MPs and the City Council.
We were all able to impress upon her how important the proposed new station at Chesterton in Cambridge was. The economics stack up very easily, the county council has the desire to lead on the project, all we need is the assurance from the minister that the station will be put into the franchise agreements due to be relet in 2013 and 2014.
The next steps are to prepare and present the business case to the minister who was very complimentary of progress so far. We will work very hard to get on with this as it is critical to the growth of the county.
Cross fingers.
Cambridge Central train station needs to open up to Rustat Road and Clifton Road. There is no reason why those approaching the train station from Cherry Hinton Road (who are less likely to use the valuable Chesterton Station) have to travel along the busiest stretches of Cambride, over Hills Road bridge and past the war memorial.
The new platform should finally provide the opportunity to finally open Cambridge Station to the South and East.
