It was great to visit mum and dad in Cornwall recently. They are both looking very well and made us very welcome. Dad is still cooking top quality food. His attention to detail is amazing. Wonderful flavours.
Having been brought up in Cornwall it is always a trip down memory lane. This time we popped in to see some friends who have bought a cottage that I helped to renovate fourth years ago !!!!!!! The place used to be five cottages but has been knocked into one. A hundred years ago over 40 people used to live here on a shift system providing labour for the local mine. Tough times.
We all went down into West Cornwall and visited St Ives. A lovely harbour with great fish and chips. Boy, has the road network improved. Duel carriageway most of the way. We even found some sun. A day trip to Looe, where I used to work during the summer holidays and a wander around Polperro completed the visit.
It is definitely a different way of life down their. Slower and much tighter communities. Rumour has it that some people have even started to pay tax – but I don’t believe that !!!!
