Remembrance Day is a special day. It is particularly special to me as an RAF veteran of 22 years.
I remember Sqn Leader Mike Stephens who died in the grounds of Sandringham when his 9 Sqn Tornado had a total power failure and ploughed into the ground. I remember his navigator, Flight Lieutenant Nigel Nickles, who ejected and survived.
I remember the Army warrant officer who was cut down by the IRA in Holland and the RAF Regiment lads in Nieuw Bergen who met the same fate.
I remember my daughter, who by the age of three, used to help daddy check under the car for bombs.
Remembrance Day is a time for all of us to remember in any way that we want. To show respect to those who have fallen on our behalf.
If you are in Clare on the 11th come and join us. A few of us will be gathering around the memorial to say a few words and observe a 2 minute silence. I will blow a whistle once to commence the silence and twice to carry on.
All welcome.
