We are all aware of the unfolding disaster in Ukraine and the plight of the refugees fleeing harm. What has been so fantastic is the kind and generous spirit of so many local people offering to share their homes with those who have lost so much.
I have had the privilege to work with some smashing people locally who have not just taken guests in but are also actively creating a refugee support group. Today, Small Town coffee house in Clare hosted our first coffee morning providing the opportunity for both Ukrainians and the host families to meet. Special mention to Antonia and Sarah who have worked so hard.
There were a lot of phone numbers being shared, questions being asked and answered and help with forms given.
There is so much to do. Schooling seems to be one of the biggest challenges.
If you are hosting a Ukrainian family or thinking of doing so or are a Ukrainian who has sought shelter here please have a look at our Facebook page.
