You may be aware a red extreme weather warning has been issued by the Met Office The first Red Extreme heat warning issued. – Met Office for parts of West Suffolk – including Haverhill, Mildenhall, Newmarket and Clare, with an amber warning in place for the rest of the district and Suffolk.
This is due to an “exceptional hot spell” forecast on Monday 18 and Tuesday 19 July, leading to possible widespread impacts on people and infrastructure.
West Suffolk Council will continue to look after the welfare of our communities who use our services and staff who deliver them, especially those outside.
We will keep services under review but, with some extra precautions such as additional breaks and drinks, we aim to carry on during this challenging times. Due to the heat our bin crews will be out earlier and we will be asking the public to make sure they have their bins out by 6am.
WSC have also set up a page on our website Weather warnings (westsuffolk.gov.uk) and will be using social media to help publicise the warning and advice from partner agencies as well as any changes to our services, such as putting bins out early.
Take care everyone. Look out for neighbours and friends who might be struggling.
