There has been an application for an alcohol licence for a new convenience store in Clare. The last date for representations is 21 December 2022.

I have been contacted by a number of people concerned about the impact a new convenience store might have on the post office and the Coop. Is there enough trade for all of them?

Some people have suggested it might be linked to a national grocer. If true is this what Clare wants or needs? Lots to think about.

What I have also been made aware of is the rear exit. Is there one? The plan submitted for an alcohol license says there is one but folk who know the shop say there isn’t. This is important because the building is listed and digging out a new exit to the building needs to be carefully thought about.

I have asked our senior conservation officer to look into the matter.
